Apologies received from delegates that could not attend to the meeting.

  1. Carlos Brotons comments the response to the letter sent to Philip Evans, President ESGP/FM concerning the relationship between the ESGP/FM and EUROPREV, including our expectations. The general reaction is that EUROPREV members are very pleased to receive the confirmation that the ESGP/FM considers this network as one of its five network organisations, and specifically to represent the interests of the ESGP/FM with reference to prevention and health promotion, but, on the other hand we are quite disappointed to learn that regular funding will only be available to the original three networks (EGPRW, EQuiP and EURACT.

It is decided to prepare a letter (by Mario Sammut and Carlos Brotons) and circulate it to everybody before sending it to the Executive of the ESGP/FM.

  2. Our participation at the WONCA Conference in London is discussed.

It is decided to organise a workshop entitle: Update in Prevention and Health Promotion by National Colleges in Primary Care: from recommendations to implementation, and the speakers will be E. Jurgova; M. Bulc; T. Drenthen; A. Mierzecki; R. Tatardze; R. Ciurana, on behalf of the EUROPREV network. In addition, as an oral communication, it is decided to submit the final results of the EUROPREV survey, being Pilar Kloppe the person who would present it.

It is commented the importance of having a stand of EUROPREV, where material from europrev and eventually from other national colleges could be exposed, and diseminated.

As usual, a closed meeting of europrev will be organised within the conference.

  3. Europrev delegates fees updated are shown. There are some countries that did not receive the letter to the President of National Colleges. The letter will be send out again (with a copy to the delegate). There are some countries that have not replied to our insistent request. The list of countries is reviewed and it is decided to drop out some of them since for along time we have not received any response to our mails. Those countries are France, Germany, Iceland, and UK. NeEUROPREV survey: results of the survey are discussed. It is commented that once we have the results of all the countries a publication will be submitted to an International Journal. Before that, a draft will be circulated to all the delegates. It is agreed to send a proposal to EGPRW for sponsorship for further analysis using this data. Mateja Bulc comments the possibility to contact some external reviewers of EGPRW in order to get some inputs.

Prize drawing is openly done during the meeting and Spain results as winner. Thus, person nº 190 will be identified, and contact to invite him/her to the Wonca meeting in London.

  4. Leo Pas comments the progress of the WONCA AD HOC Task Force on Tobacco Cessation and the role of europrev as a key network to develop this project in WONCA-Europe. A workshop will be organised in London, where different experiences from Europe, and preliminary results of the inquiry concerning the level of activity among Wonca member organisations in addressing tobacco cessation will be presented.

  5. Carlos Brotons comments the invitation to participate at the Third International Workshop. Nutrition Guidance of Family Doctors: Towards best practice, to be held next December 10-12, 2001, Heelsum, The Netherlands. He will present a conference entitled 'networking family physicians', and results of the email survey about nutrition guidelines and partial results of the europrev survey will be presented. Ton Drenthen will also attend this meeting and he will present an experience from the Netherlands ('patient information leaflets').

  6. It is commented the organisation of the WHO Conference on Public and Private Partnerships to Reduce Tobacco Dependence which will take place in Prague 13-14 December, and it would be convenient that somebody could go and represent Europrev at this important meeting.

  7. European research projects: we have been contacted by the principal investigators of two European Commission Projects: Integrating interventions to overcome addiction to smoking in primary health care professionals' daily work (Dr. Peter Anderson) and Integrating mental health promotion interventions into countries' policies, practice and the health care system (Dr. Eva Jané Llopis). They have proposed us to actively participate in both projects as a collaborating network. We have to wait until the European Commission approves those proposals.

  8. Candidates for the coordination of EUROPREV

As it is stated in the by-laws, the period of office for the coordination of Europrev is 3 years. At the present moment, Spain will coordinate the office until November 2002. That is the reason why Carlos Brotons raises the issue of new candidates for the next three years. No candidates show up and it is agreed by all delegates present at the meeting that Spain continues in the coordination of the network for three more years.

  9. EUROPREV funding (memberships):

The support which EUROPREV presently enjoys from the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine and from the Catalan and Galician governments of Spain will not last for much longer. Unless funding from the ESGP/FM is forthcoming, Europrev will have to consider different alternatives. One is to open a Europrev membership. It is shown a brochure of europrev that will be circulated through all the delegates, and then through the national colleges, where specifications of membership are shown (50 Euros for individual, 200 Euros for Public Institutions 200 Euros, and 2000 Euros for Private institutions). This information can also be obtained from the webpage (www.europrev.org).

It is commented also the possibility of seeking corporate sponsorship from other sources (e.g. the pharmaceutical industry).

  10. Next meeting will be at the WONCA Conference in London, June 9-13th, 2002.
